Callous is a diffuse thickening of the skin caused by light friction and pressure on the skin. A corn is a very hard, well defined and localised plug of hard skin as a result of much higher intensity of friction and pressure. These normally occur over joints but not always. The discomfort associated with corns and callous may change ones gait, creating a limp and may cause dysfunction elsewhere.
